William J Lotito  passed away peacefully in his Punta Gorda home on December 28th surrounded by his loving family after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and Frontotemporal Dementia.

Bill was a devoted husband to Anne for 53 years and a loving father to his son Christopher and devoted nephew Sean Surdow (Francis).  He is survived by his brother Robert Lotito (Jane), and sisters Margaret Marchell, nee Lotito (John), Marian Lotito and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Bill was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lillian and his brother Michael.

Bill, originally from Brooklyn served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 with most of that time in Vietnam. After proudly serving his country, he continued to serve his community as a police officer with the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey for 21 years where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. During some of that time he served as a canine officer with his partner Prince a German Shepherd.

In his retirement Bill worked for King Fisher Fleet eventually starting his own flatwater charter fishing service where he was known as "Captain Bill".  In his down time Bill volunteered with the VA shuttling veterans to doctor appointments as well as donating over65 gallons of blood at One Blood as a tribute to the 37 Port Authority Officers who lost their lives on 9/11.  He enjoyed being part of two pool leagues, boating, fishing and his many walks and outings to Shorty's with his Greyhound Joey.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either Tunnel to Towers or The WoundedWarrior Project.
