Louis M. Barry, 72, a cherished husband, father, and dedicated public servant, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Born on August 28, 1953, in Norwood, Massachusetts, Louis exemplified the values of service, community, and family throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Bernard and Olive (Brown) Barry, and his sister, Loretta Szymanski. Louis is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne (Griffen) Barry of Granby, as well as his sons, Nicholas Barry and his wife, Jennifer, of New York and Matthew Barry and his wife, Elizabeth, of North Carolina. He also leaves behind his sister, Jean Barry-Hill of Florida; mother-in-law, Doris Griffen of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Kate Griffen of Granby; and brothers-in-law, Todd Griffen of Massachusetts and Robert Griffen of Oklahoma. Louis took great joy in being a grandfather to Caden and Caitlyn Barry, who were sources of immense pride and happiness in his life.

Louis graduated from Agawam High School before furthering his education at Holyoke Community College, where he laid the foundation for a distinguished career in law enforcement. He earned his BA from Castleton State in Vermont and went on to achieve his master’s degree from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts. His early career began with the Orleans, MA police department, where he served for eleven years. In 1988, he became the Chief of Police in Granby, a role he held until his retirement in 2010. After his retirement, Louis continued his commitment to justice and community by becoming a private investigator and founding and managing the nonprofit organization, Private Investigations for the Missing. His contributions extended beyond his professional commitments; he taught criminal justice courses at Holyoke Community College, the State Police Academy, and Western New England University. He also started the DARE Program in Granby and created a series of sports focused children's camps, fostering community engagement and youth development.

Outside of his professional life, Louis had a passion for deep-sea fishing, often enjoying moments spent on charters in the waters of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and developing the property at his home in Granby. His vibrant spirit and force of will left a positive impact on all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

Friends and family are invited to honor Louis’ life during calling hours at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17th, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with closing remarks at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a charity at which he was a board member, Private Investigations For The Missing, www.investigationsforthemissing.org
