Joey Anne Rice Hudson, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Samuel Thomas Hudson, Jr.
Born December 9, 1937, in Altavista, VA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Russell Rice and Annie Woodall Rice. She was preceded in death by a son, David Russell Hudson and three siblings, Jimmie Rice, Johnnie Rice and Jackie Rice. She was a member of the former Rivermont Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA.
She is survived by her sons, R. Scott Hudson ( Kellie) and Samuel Thomas Hudson III; four grandchildren, Meagan Leighanne Hudson, Ashbie Scott Hudson, Brooke Ashleigh Hudson and Carter Elizabeth Hudson; and a brother, Jerry Rice.
She was known to family and friends as “Joanne” , “Granny” or “Aunt Joanne”. She had a love for music, specifically blue grass and 50’s music. She even took some time to take violin lessons which she enjoyed so much. She was her family’s greatest supporter, especially her granddaughters, nieces, great nieces, and great nephew. She loved the beach especially joining her family on beach camping trips. She loved everyone and never left anyone out.
The family will receive friends, Friday, January 9, 2026, from 6-8pm at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00am at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
