Maria Elizabeth Bayardi passed away on December 28, 2025. She is survived by her children, Brandon (Chelsea), Elizabeth (Will), and Bryan (Terra); grandchildren, Olivia, Bryson, and Sophia; sister, Marianne (Jenni); nephews and niece, Benjamin, Zachary, and Ella; and mother, Maureen.

Born in Blue Island, Illinois, on February 7, 1963, Maria moved to Phoenix, Arizona with her family in 1971. A talented swimmer, she soon began setting records for the butterfly and freestyle at Moon Valley High School. When she wasn’t swimming, her nose was buried in a book, a trait she carried with her throughout her life.

Maria valued education and pursued a master’s degree from Keller Graduate School of Management. She worked in Human Resources where she supported employees of all backgrounds and solved all sorts of complex problems.

Later in life she entered the estate sale industry, and what first started as a side job turned into a true passion. In time, Maria developed a vast knowledge of the industry and became a trusted member of the community. Her work ethic shined through the long days and nights when she prepped for or cleaned up from a sale. She had an eye for unique treasures that she often gifted to loved ones, a beautiful example of her generosity and thoughtfulness.

Anyone who knew Maria knew she had a special love for animals. For ten years she fostered more than 1,000 dogs for a local animal rescue. She had a special gift for socializing puppies and preparing them for adoption with their forever homes. If you were feeling down, Maria recommended what she called “puppy therapy.”

In addition to animals, Maria loved baseball. A season ticket holder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Maria enjoyed taking her kids to Bank One Ballpark for Sunday afternoon games. She also cheered on her son, Brandon, throughout his baseball career. In between baseball tournaments, she attended every choir concert for her daughter, Elizabeth, and every football game and track meet for her son, Bryan.

Maria had an infectious laugh and knack for telling goofy jokes. She loved Reese’s, milk, and Diet Coke, and she never shied away from an opportunity to jump in a swimming pool - no matter the water temperature. Maria loved roller coasters and carousel rides. She believed the Beatles were the greatest band of all time and could often be found humming along to one of their many hits. Maria was a devoutly spiritual person and strived to live her faith each day.

A service celebrating Maria’s life will be held at St. Helen’s Catholic Church on June 1st.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Underdog Rescue of Arizona.
