Allen D. Whitehead Sr. 72 of Summerville, S.C. passed away peacefully and soundly January 5, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply and truly missed by family also close friends. Allen was born in Tallahassee, Florida on November 22, 1953, the second child of Robert Eugene Whitehead Jr. and Etherlene (Teppy) Scott. He served his country in the United States Army strongly and proudly. He was awarded the national defense service metal and was honorably discharge March 6, 1974. He was a mechanic specialist after his time in the armed forces.
Allen was an avid fisherman, and a self taught chef. He prouded himself with many culinary skills and dishes. Which he loved to share with his family. Allen also loved being a member of the APA Pool League, playing for years through out his life. He was greatly honored when he became a grandfather.
Allen was very genuine, forthright, determined, and kind in his own way. He lived his life by his own terms, deeply rooted beliefs, strongly spoken opinions, with a heart that could whether the toughest storms. He would endure extreme pain and illnesses just to provide for those he loved.
In his younger years he would be the life of the party and light up a room. He taught his son how to swim the only way he knew how. By throwing him out the boat saying sink or swim laughing joyfully. He enjoyed having bb guns wars where once he almost lost his eye, living one day at a time the best he knew how. He created the best barbecue sauce you could ever imagine. Keeping his secret recipe with him until the end.
Allen is survived by his only son, Allen D.Whitehead Jr, his grandson, Dominick E.W. Whitehead, his brothers, George E. Whitehead and Frank Whitehead, his sister, Charlene Whitehead, his niece, Brandy Whitehead Pockrus, his nephews Daniel Whitehead and Christopher Lee, his grand nephew, Joseph Wamer. Also, his beloved dog Missy May.
The most memorable words he would live by " Live one day at a time, you only can do what you can, but take care of yourself always put family first."
Allen you have made your mark on this road we call life. Giving us strong views about being an American, and standing for what you held dear to you. For that we honor you in life and remember you lovingly for years to come, you will be always loves and strongly missed.
A Memorial Service be held at Maranatha Baptist Church 453 N Mano St, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 on Saturday January 24 2026 1pm-3pm.
