Lenard H Conklin

December 9, 1949-January 8, 2026

Born to Josephine (Leslie) and Lucien Conklin on 12/9/1949 as the second child of seven.

As a lifelong resident of his beloved Stony Point, Lenard was the last hay bailer of Rockland County. He truly loved living in the house his great-grandfather built on Gate Hill Road. This is where he lived with the love of his life Nora (Edington) Conklin, whom preceded him in death.

Lenard is survived by his loving siblings, Bradley (Diane) Conklin, Susan (Tim) Walsh, John (Heather) Conklin, Alfred (Kris) Conklin, Janet (Bob) Sullivan and LuAnn (Scott) Wellington. …and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephew.

Lenard also survived by his step- daughters Nora-Ann (David) Beach and Michelle Troisi, his two grandsons Mark Joseph and Nicholas.  He was preceded in death by his  step-son Clyde Lawrence.

Lenard proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seabee, which was his dream position.  He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories of his time in the service. In 2024, he was celebrated on the Hudson Valley Honor Flight, mission 34, in Washington D.C.

Lenard was a lifelong hunter and truly loved being in the mountains, especially the Catskill Mountains in Spruceton, and spending time in nature. He was also a proud member of the Delaware Hunting Club. He enjoyed trout fishing, in his secret spot, particularly around Easter. In addition to that Lenard was an active member in the Historical Society of the Palisades Interstate Park Region.

He proudly worked at Algonquin Gas for 31 years and then went on to work at the Stony Point Sewer plant where he retired. Lenard was a devoted Methodist and was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Stony Point is entire life.

He enjoyed meeting new people and chatting about his experiences and where he came from. In his later years he truly enjoyed going to the Red Barn Cidery at Davies Farm. Christine, Jeff, Lee, Niles and the entire staff there accepted him as one of the gang and he truly appreciated that. Everyone there really made him feel special.  He was a true gentleman and a friend to all who met him. He will be greatly missed by many.

Memorial visiting will be held on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, from 1pm-6pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 19th, 2026, 10am at the First United Methodist Church, 249 West Main Street, Stony Point, NY.
