Retired vice president of Morgan Stanley and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Thomas Patrick Moran passed away Friday, January 9, 2026. Tom, 88, died in his home in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida, of natural causes, with his family at his side.
Dedicated to his beloved wife, family, and friends, Tom was as well known for his savvy investment advice as he was for his charming good looks, dry sense of humor, and deep knowledge of American history.
Born in Stanley, North Dakota, Tom spent most of his childhood in White Earth, North Dakota, where he enjoyed handball and squash, golf, bridge and reading. Tom graduated from White Earth High School as valedictorian. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. In college, he served as president and social chairman of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After college, Tom joined the military where he served as contracting officer for the United States Air Force.
Tom was a proven business leader. At Morgan Stanley, he served as Senior Vice President, where he was employed for more than 35 years. In addition to providing sound investment advice for clients across the nation, Tom led and mentored the next generation of financial advisors. Prior to this role, Tom worked for Harris Corporation (previously known as Radiation, Inc.) as contracts administrator on the Digital Command System, PCM Telemetry as well as IBM. In addition, Tom served as the Vice President of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club.
Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue, daughters, Marla (Vince) Reynoso and Shawn (Roland) Stonaker, daughter-in-law Trena Moran, grandchildren, Torie and Jacob (Sierra) Moran and Shea and Reese Stonaker, great grandchildren, Joanna, Juliet, and Jonathan Moran, and his sister, Kathy Tessmer. Predeceased by his parents Alice and Leo Moran, daughter. Tami Middleton and son, John Moran.
A private service will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
