Charles Edward Russ, born on March 25, 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Lakewood, Colorado. He was 89 years old.
Charles pursued his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1957. He also minored in education and obtained a teacher's certificate during his time there. His early dedication to service was evident through his active participation in the Army ROTC during both high school and college.
Following graduation, Charles began a long and dedicated career with Republic Steel, where he worked until 1987. After retiring from the steel industry, he continued to share his passion for people and community by working nearly three decades in the pro shop at Rolling Hills Country Club. His presence there became a familiar and welcome part of many members’ experiences.
Charles was a man of many interests and talents. In his spare time, he found joy in restoring antiques and classic cars—projects that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. However, it was in his yard that he found his greatest peace and fulfillment. Tending to his garden and landscaping was not just a hobby but a true labor of love.
A man of deep faith, Charles was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. His spiritual life provided him with strength and guidance throughout the years.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Loretta Ann, married for 58 years, in 2021. Charles is also preceded in death by 2 Brother In Laws, Richard Barrett and Gene Mathes. He is lovingly remembered by his son Timothy (Heather); sisters Nancy Barrett, Betsy Mathes, Susan Guarnieri (Michael), and Polly Wagenbrenner (Mike); brother-in-law Thomas Carney (Mary Rita); as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
May Charles Edward Russ’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life lived with quiet dedication, enduring love, and steadfast faith. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 27, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 1985 Miller St. Lakewood, CO 80215 Rosary @ 10:30am
