Wendy Lou Wilbur, 81, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, passed into the waiting arms of her Savior on Friday, January 16, 2026. Wendy was the beloved wife of Frank H. Wilbur and the daughter of the late Roy and Velma (Tuttle) Johnson. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on April 1, 1944, Wendy’s life was characterized by her love and care for those around her. She will be remembered as a faithful and supportive wife, generous mother, and compassionate friend to those in her Sunday school class at Southland Christian Church and many residents at Sayre Christian Village.
Wendy had an accomplished career in nursing. She graduated from Roger Williams School of Nursing in Providence and went on to work at the University of Virginia Hospital and at a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia. Wendy later worked as a certified psychiatric nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, before concluding her career serving as a clinic nurse at Asbury College, from which she retired in 2007.
Studying the Bible on her own or in Bible Study Fellowship International, praying for others, and serving different ministries were ways that Wendy invested her time, energy, and passion. As a lifelong learner with a love for reading, she always had something interesting to share in good conversation. She also excelled in many forms of handicrafts. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, cross-stitcher, and needlepoint artist, and has left for her family many handmade items that reflect her attention to detail and appreciation of beauty.
In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, Wending is survived by their children, Jonathan (Laura) Wilbur of Nicholasville, Kentucky and Jennifer (Joseph) Swanson of New Pekin, Indiana, six grandchildren: Trinity (Ethan) Osborne, Moriah (Elijah) Wilbur-Hicks, Joey Swanson, Liberty Wilbur, Nuriya (Daniel) Day, and Jachin Wilbur, and three great-grandchildren: Uriah, Anika, and Kieran. She is also survived by three sisters: Noel (George) Schobel, Marsha (Mark) Lord, and Cynthia (Peter) Lamarine.
A memorial service for Wendy Wilbur will be held on March 7, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Church of the Savior, 1301 Brannon Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate to-st-jude.html) or In His Steps Ministries, P.O. Box 142, Wilmore, KY 40903 with a note for “Central Asian Ministries”.
