On the morning of Saturday, November 22, 2025, Nickie Dee (Miller) Knowles passed away in Puyallup, Washington at the age of 90.
Nickie was born July 8, 1935, in Vancouver, Washington to Herman John Miller, SR and Genevieve Bernice Crossen. Nickie was raised with her younger brother, Herman M. H. Miller, Jr. in Vancouver/ Salmon Creek, Washington.
On June 5, 1955, in Vancouver, Washington, Nickie married Billy A Knowles, after he’d returned from serving in the Army during the Korean conflict. They settled in Olympia, Washington and raised 4 children. In 1966 they then moved to Puyallup, where they lived for 59 years.
Nickie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In Nickie’s youth, she was raised on a farm and carried those skillsets into her adult life. Her passion was animals, gardening, fruit tree maintenance, and preserving food for the family. Nickie also volunteered her time as an assistant cub scout leader and school activities for her children.
Camping was a common activity that she loved, whether it was hiking in the mountains, fishing or at the ocean clam digging. Several family cross-country trips were made to national parks, historical monuments, or watching lightning across the Great Plains.
Nickie is survived by three of her children, Terill, Linda and Tracy. Ten grandchildren, Desirae, Jonathan, Janine, Joshua, Michelle, Amanda, Kristine (Krissy), Kimberly (Kimmy), and Eric. Nine great-grandchildren, Ryder, Bella, Ryan, Kaylee, Tyann, Lyla, Aubry, Brianna and soon Genevieve.
Nickie was proceeded in death by Billy, her husband of 66 years, and son Emmett.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am, January 20, 2026, at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St, Kent WA 98042, and a celebration of life following at the family home.
