Monty Alexander Meiklejohn was born on February 24, 1949, in Santa Ana, California. He passed away on January 15, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 76 following a brief illness.

His parents, Cliff and Berna Meiklejohn, moved to Ellicott, Colorado in 1959 with Monty and his younger brother, Ron. They owned a family dairy and worked hard to make it successful. Monty had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together at a young age. He could build almost anything out of materials that were laying around the farm. He loved photography and taught himself to use complex cameras and develop film.

Monty served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 and enjoyed seeing the world. He was an aviation machinist on the USS Shangri-La Aircraft Carrier, then transferred to the Naval Reserve and served until 1974. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Ribbon.

After leaving the Navy, Monty ran the dairy with his dad, worked in landscaping, custom cabinet making, home building, pipe laying and heavy equipment. In his spare time, he built his own home. He worked at Fort Carson for private contractors as a blade operator for 20 years before retiring. Never one to sit around idle, he soon started cutting down trees for people; then chopping and selling firewood. Monty was never afraid of hard work!

To say Monty had a passion for trains is an understatement. He owned hundreds of HO train cars and built an entire garage to hold them all. He created beautiful scenery with mountains, trees, and tunnels with multi-level tracks to run these trains. His home was full of train memorabilia, photos, and books.

Monty enjoyed hunting deer and elk in the mountains with Ron and the Hoyle family. Lots of good memories were made setting up camp, successfully getting their deer or elk, and then sitting around playing cards in the tent after dark.

As both a deacon and an elder in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Monty had a strong faith and heart for serving others. He often made repairs and did things for people that they could not do for themselves. His carpentry, plumbing and mechanical skills were put to good use helping people in the congregation. He loved the Lord and his church family!

Monty is survived by his brother, Ronald Meiklejohn and wife, Nancy of Ellicott, CO; niece, Audra Blanch and husband, Ramzy, of Colorado Springs, CO; nephew, Adam Meiklejohn of Denver, CO; great nephew, Isaiah Blanch; and great niece, Alana Blanch. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford and his mother, Bernadene. He will be greatly missed!

Funeral services will be held on January 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Springs Funeral Services at 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs. A military burial will follow at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
