Mahmood Kolahi, 75 years old, of Bothell, Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026 surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters. His light continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Born on March 21, 1950 in Mashhad, Iran to Fatemeh and Ali Kolahi, Mahmood grew up surrounded by a large family as well as extended family. Mahmood entered the US on a student visa. After intensive English studies, he attended Sheridan College and transferred to the University of Wyoming. He then went on to complete his business degree at Mankato State University. He started dating his future wife Kay on February 14, 1975 and married her on September 6, 1980 in Seattle, Washington. When they arrived in Seattle everything they owned was carefully packed into their dark red 1975 Mustang and Seattle has been their home ever since. Mahmood owned his own business selling produce wholesale, where he worked hard for his family. Because of his hard work he provided college educations, cars and weddings for his three beautiful daughters, of whom he was so proud. He always proclaimed that their provisions were from God. Mahmood entertained people with his jokes, imitation of many accents, including Marlin Brando “The Godfather" and knew a few words in many languages. He loved to sing and could often be heard singing heartfelt Persian songs with his rich voice. Mahmood played soccer for many years, coached soccer and diligently exercised until the end. He loved to cook delicious Persian meals from fresh ingredients requiring a long precise chopping ritual and after hours of preparation his family would enjoy these meals together around the table, creating lasting memories. Mahmood is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Mitra Knickelbein and husband Reinhard, children Claire and Olivia; daughter Roya Collins and husband Nick, children Grace and Ellie; daughter Katie Burgess and husband Brian, children Brady, Leo and baby Tate. He is also survived by one brother Javad Kolahi, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mahmood is preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. He was the youngest sibling. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have reached out to us in compassion during this difficult time.
