Elberta Mae Sneed, 89, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 12, 2026. Born on August 29, 1936, she was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Pearl Simpson.
Known to those who loved her simply as "Mae," she was a woman of sweet and unwavering kindness. To know Mae was to know a gentle soul who saw the beauty in the world and in everyone she met.
Elberta’s hands were rarely still. She was a devoted gardener who found great peace and joy intending to her plants and flowers, creating a world of color and life around her. When she wasn’t tending to her plants or garden, Mae was a force to be reckoned with at the bowling alley. A passionate and skilled bowler, she took great pride in her game and won several awards throughout her life—a testament to her dedication and lively, competitive spirit.
Her legacy is one of grace, warmth, and the simple joy of a life well-lived. She will be remembered for the flowers she grew, the games she won, and the kindness she shared so freely with her family and friends.
Elberta’s early years were spending with her parents Joseph and Pearl Simpson and taking care of her siblings on parents farm: Rachel Heinold of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Sadie Gerace (and her husband Jack) of Boynton Beach, Florida; Carl Simpson (and his wife Nancy) of Smyrna, Delaware; and Joseph Simpson (and his wife Carol) of Clayton, Delaware; Mae's brothers Carl and Joseph and sister Sadie and Rachel preceded her in death.
Elberta Sneed, is proceeded in death by her husband (Jim Sneed) of Melbourne, Florida (and her late partner John Kopko) of Melbourne Fl
Elberta is survived by her loving son, John Kerr of Cocoa Florida, and her four cherished grandchildren: Darrel Carouthers, Heidi Kerr, Andrew Kerr (Kaitlin) and Kathleen Kerr.
Service arrangements are currently being finalized. A private celebration of Mae’s life will be held in Melbourne on February 7.
