Garlon “Tommy” Johnson

Garlon “Tommy” Johnson (88) of Moncks Corner, SC entered eternal rest on Friday, January 19, 2026 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. Tommy was predeceased by his wife Margaret Johnson, his mother, Emma Bolton, and brother David Johnson.

Tommy was born and grew up in Norfolk, VA. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic on turboprop aircraft. He went on to be a dedicated career civil servant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard assigned as a welding engineering technician keeping our U.S. Naval Fleet safe and battle ready in his continued service to our country until his retirement. He was a self-taught carpenter and all-around handyman. He shared his expertise and craftsmanship, always helping neighbors. If Tommy couldn’t fix it, it must have been not fixable in the first place. He was a member of the B.P.O.E Charleston Lodge #242, a Mason and a Shriner. Tommy attended Pointe North Church in Moncks Corner, SC where he worshiped with friends and met Sharon Deroche. Tommy cherished the bond he and Sharon held.

Tommy is survived by his daughter Joy J. Bernier of Edisto Island, SC, his stepchildren Wanda Seal, Walker (Priscilla) Burbage, Diane (Jon) Evans, Bruce (Suzanne) Burbage, and Trudy Burbage. Tommy is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend his graveside funeral service at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Ashley River Road in Charleston, SC on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 2:00pm. Arrangements will be through Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services in Ladson, SC.

Memorial Donations may be made in memory of Tommy to: Pointe North Church, 110 Bilo Dr., Suite C, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 (pointenorth.org) or to the Shriner’s Hospital for children, W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 (donate.shrinerschildren.org)
