Resident of Lafayette and Moraga CA 1958-2026
Shirley Jennings passed away peacefully in the comforting presence of her daughter and other caregivers after 91 years of life experiences.
Shirley was born in London, England and survived the World War II bombings. Her educational achievements included being Head Girl (Prefect) in Year 13 at Latymers School and majoring in French with a minor in German at Bristol University.
She loved to ballroom dance and square dance. She and her husband Tom were active members of the Lafayette Escadrilles and other social groups. Shirley’s other favorite activities were tennis, bridge, crosswords, arts and crafts, flower gardening and watching murder mysteries, musicals and WW II documentaries and dramas.
Shirley held various part-time jobs, including being a governess, real estate agent, hospice bookkeeper and Burton Valley Elementary School teacher’s aide.
She is survived by her older sister Megan, children Linda, Richard and David, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Shirley will be missed.
Shirley's Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026 from 11 AM to 2 PM at
St. Anselm's Episcopal Church, 682 Michael Ln., Lafayette, CA 94549.
Sandwiches, appetizers and soft drinks will be served.
