It is with deep sadness that the family of Junki Kitahara announces his peaceful passing on January 14, 2026, at the age of 88. An admired grandfather, father, and friend, Junki was defined by his independence, kindness, quick wit, and strong will. He left an unforgettable impact on everyone he met, and his passing leaves a profound void in many hearts.
Born on March 21, 1937, Junki grew up in Monterey, California, as the youngest of five children. A dedicated Pharmacist, he enjoyed a career spanning 54 years; he was licensed in 1963 and worked until his retirement at the age of 80. Among his many life adventures, one of the most significant was his marriage to his beloved late wife, Linda (McNair) Kitahara. Together, they explored the world, traveling to new places, meeting new people, and cherishing time spent with friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Jon Allen Kitahara and daughter-in-law Mai Vue Kitahara; his granddaughters, Aleah Midori and Mia Noriko; and Nancy Kitahara, the mother of his son.
Junki was preceded in death by his parents, Kotaro and Takako Kitahara.
Junki was fortunate to have a scope of friendship that reached even further than his family knew. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal service. His family asks that you privately celebrate Junki’s memory in your own way.
