Pattie Diane Michie was born on June 13, 1938 in Vaiden, Mississippi and returned to her eternal home on January 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Ringold “Charger” Michie, the former Sheriff of Carroll County Mississippi, her mother Mary Melton Michie and a brother Melton Michie who died tragically in a car accident in 1951. She is survived by her cousin, Sue Rollins of Mobile Alabama, other relatives and an incalculable number of devoted friends who knew and loved her over the years.

The Michie Family traces its roots to Scotland and Ireland and settled in Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War. They established the Historic Michie Tavern in 1777 which continues to thrive to this day in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Pattie’s immediate family headed South to find opportunity in Mississippi. Pattie was raised by her parents to be a proper Southern lady of character with a strong independent will of her own. The undeniable influence of her father’s values and beliefs was to be forever confirmed by the opening words for many Pattie Michie stories which began, “My daddy said…”

Pattie attended Mississippi State College for Women. It was the first state supported college for women in the United States. It provided a quality college education coupled with practical vocational training and is now known as Mississippi University for Women. After a very brief marriage, Pattie began a career centered around fashion, retail and the hospitality industry. She was successful in all her endeavors but continued to seek out new opportunities which led her to vacation on Hilton Head Island early in its development. She fell in love with the island and moved permanently in the early 1990’s. She continued to work in retail and hospitality and for a short period at The Cypress Retirement Community on Hilton Head. It was from there that she found her perfect home at the Country Club of Hilton Head. Pattie filled positions in Administration, Event Planning and finally the ideal fit as Club Ambassador and Concierge. For nearly twenty-five years Pattie was the face of the Club for its membership. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and gracious manner. She remembered every name. She made members feel important and wanted. She expanded her network through weekly appointments with her hairdresser and manicurist and became widely known on the Island. She was loved by everyone who met her and her life was celebrated in a feature article by Pink Magazine in 2021.

Everyone had a Pattie Michie story. She was accomplished at smoothing ruffled feathers, making everyone feel valued and brightening the day of anyone she encountered over the years. Her willingness to help knew no bounds. If you needed someone to watch your house or your children or your pets or to be a companion for your elderly parent Pattie would be there for you. Pattie found the family she never had in the staff and membership of the Country Club of Hilton Head. She made it her responsibility to love them and care for them all through her career.

Illness forced her into retirement in early 2023 and she moved into Village Cove Assisted Living. The staff there knew Pattie by reputation and quickly made her “Resident Ambassador” which was an ideal role for both her and her fellow residents. Then in 2024 Pattie decided she could do more and trained to be a volunteer for Mirasol/Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. She provided caring patient companionship up until the time of her own death.

Pattie clearly followed the oft repeated advice of her father, “Conduct your life in such a way that commands respect and everything else will fall into place.”

Pattie was an active and faithful member of North Island Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be held there beginning at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 24 followed immediate by a Celebration of Her Life at the Country Club of Hilton Head.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation in Pattie’s name to Deep Well or to Mirasol/Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.
