Donna Lee Iiams (92)
September 8, 1933 - January 6, 2026
Born in Portland, Oregon, to Rosalind and Edward Barton. As an infant, Donna began life on a houseboat off the shores of the Willamette River before moving to her childhood home in Sellwood. She spent long days playing with her dog Tinker, cousins, and friends, often riding bicycles with her pet chicken, Henny Penny, tucked into the handlebar basket. A later move to Hood River, Oregon, where her family opened an ice cream shop, set the scene for meeting Robert Iiams, who would become her husband of nearly 65 years.
After graduating from Hood River High School, Donna attended Oregon State University, earning degrees in Home Economics and Primary Education. During her time at OSU, she was elected Sophomore Class President and served as President of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The friendships she formed during these years were treasured throughout her life. Upon graduation, she married Robert, and soon their family began to grow. In later years, the family moved to a 110-year-old country home in Pleasant Valley, which they enjoyed until becoming empty nesters.
Donna's teaching career began in Portland Public Schools and the Centennial School District, ultimately leading her to first grade at Pleasant Valley Grade School in Gresham, Oregon. Over her 30 years of guiding her 'little people,' the number of students and colleagues whose lives she touched is too great to count.
Upon retirement, Donna and Rob divided their time between their home in Fairview, Oregon, and the home they built together in Lincoln City. During these years, Donna became an award-winning quilter, gifting countless fabric masterpieces to family, friends, and charities. Many memories were made and milestones celebrated with friends, children, and grandchildren. She was a Momma and Grammie to many who knew and loved her.
Donna is predeceased by her husband Robert and son Steven. She is survived by daughters Karen Hall, Tracey Symington, and Julie Iiams-Mitchell (Dan); grandchildren Kellie Roos (Marten), Amy Cook, Natalie Mitchell, and Jude Iiams; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal rescue or shelter in honor of Tinker, Henny Penny, and the many pups who shared her life.
