Nancy Louise Avila (née Calvé), 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved. She was born on April 12, 1942, in Denver, Colorado, where she spent her early years before making Colorado Springs her home in 1973—a community she proudly lived in, and served for more than five decades.
Nancy was the beloved wife of Peter A. Avila, with whom she shared a marriage until his passing in 2012. Together they built a life grounded in faith, service, and family. She was a loving and devoted mother to four children: Charles Avila, Cheryl Barthelmes, Greg Avila, and Carin Avila. She was a proud grandmother to Echo, Tristyn, Sabrina, Kristian, Grant, and Seth. And a cherished great-grandmother to Jessiah, Francis, Samuel, and Benjamin.
Nancy was the daughter of Francis J. Calvé and Katherine Calvé (Wells). She is survived by her siblings Clarke Calvé, Theresa Coffin, Angela Calvé, and Julie Venette, and was preceded in death by her siblings Dianne Calvé and Mark Calvé.
She attended St. Joseph’s High School in Denver and went on to pursue her calling in nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse from Mercy Hospital in 1960. Nancy dedicated her life to caring for others, most notably, devoting over 30 years of service as an Emergency Room nurse at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where her calm presence, skill, and compassion left a lasting impact on countless patients, families, and colleagues.
Nancy found deep joy in gardening, taking pride in tending to her flowers and plants—a reflection of the care and patience she showed throughout her life. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of who she was, guiding her actions and shaping her relationships. She served her community through her involvement with the Colorado Springs City Planning Commission and was a devoted parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where her faith and fellowship remained steadfast throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program (https://www.rmrp.org/donate/).
Nancy will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering compassion, deep faith, and the enduring love she had for her family. Her life of service, generosity, and grace leaves a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched.
