Kathleen V. Marino (Kathie), 77, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, in Venice, FL, following a year long courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 30, 1948, Kathie graduated from Weaver High School, Harford, CT in 1966. She worked at several different jobs until she settled on selling and appraising real estate. Kathie was a long time member of the National Association of Realtors and a Certified Real Estate Appraisers. She retired to Florida in 2010.
Kathie is survived by her husband Frank, who was Kathie’s greatest supporter, caregiver, and best friend. They were happily together for 30 years.
Kathie was a life long avid enthusiast of all things botanical and horticultural (gardening). She spent the last 15 plus years creating a Garden of Eden in her own backyard. Starting out with very little, she tirelessly researched Florida horticulture to determine what would best fit her vision and her dream. The results show the love she had of nature; a place of peace, rest, beauty, and tranquility, much like the person herself.
Kathie shared her love of nature, the outdoors, gardening, and all things horticultural. As a long time member of the Venice Area Garden Club, she enjoyed the company of like minded friends and spent many happy years doing what she loved most. She also was a long time member and supporter of the Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida.
Until the very end Kathie was an avid reader. She loved mysteries, historical perspectives, and non-fiction readings. She enthusiastically supported the Venice public library. In addition to her many talents, Kathie was an incredible cook, specializing in authentic Italian cuisine. Lastly, but certainly not least, her other talents and interests included sewing, travel, walking/hiking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
Kathie was predeceased by her parents, Harold Berry and Alyce (Finn) Berry; and, her sisters Dianne Berry and Judith (Berry) Garvey. She leaves behind son Jonathan Delgado of Cambridge, MA; daughter-in-law Catherine (Bird) Delgado, also of Cambridge MA; granddaughter Athena (Delgado) Ward of Philadelphia, PA; and, niece Kathy (Garvey) Breaux of Reading, PA. In addition, she leaves scores of friends located all over the country, from the northeast states to Florida to the state of Washington. She will be lovingly missed by one and all.
Kathie will be interred in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill, CT next to her beloved mother and her sister Dianne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kathie’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Venice Area Garden Club.
