Joseph A. Marotta, 77, passed away on January 25, 2026 at Atlas Rehabilitation and Healthcare at Washington Township after a lingering and debilitating illness.

Born in Philadelphia, Joe attended St. Monica Elementary School and Bishop Neumann High School.  After graduating from Bishop Neumann in 1966, Joe enlisted in the Air Force and served until 1971. Shortly after completing training, he was deployed to Pleiku in Viet Nam for a year of service there.  For many years after his safe return to his family, Joe remained active with the Veterans Affairs, helping to support other veterans through weekly meetings and teaching classes.  He was fortunate to have two opportunities in later years to return to Viet Nam with some of his buddies as well as to participate in the Honor Flight Network program that provided trips to Washington, DC for Vets to view the memorials built to honor their service.

After his return from Viet Nam, Joe worked for a time with Burgese Plumbing and then Silo’s main warehouse in Southwest Philadelphia.  In 1978 he was asked to open and manage a new Silo warehouse in Camp Hill, where he and his family resided for 7 years.  He then moved with his family to Turnersville and eventually Sewell, becoming a NJ resident for 33 years.

After settling in NJ, Joe became a realtor with Coldwell Banker, Fox Roach and finally Century 21: Rauh and Johns.  He was well known for his willingness to go the extra mile and help anyone needing assistance, something well learned from his parents.  He served on the Gloucester County Realtors Board of Directors and eventually became President for two years; Joe was also the recipient of several awards, in particular, several times, the Centurian Award.

Anyone knowing Joe would know about his great love for bowling.  He found and joined a league wherever he was living, even returning to St. Monica, while living in New Jersey.  It was there that he accomplished a bowler’s dream…a 300 game. He also enjoyed golfing and playing softball at the “Lakes” in South Philly.  Another favorite pastime was preparing his garden, planting and harvesting tomatoes and vegetables for summer and fall enjoyment.  In his retirement years, Joe loved taking the ride to Maine and spending time there with his son.

Son of the late Joseph and Mary (Screnci) Marotta, Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice (Dyndal) Marotta, his daughter Christina M. and her daughter Sophia, his son Vincent J. and his daughter Rhea.   Joe is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol (Dyndal) Welsh, his brother, Nicholas, his sister, Sister Rita Marotta, IHM, his brother, Anthony, and his brother, Louis and sister-in-law, Joann (Lauria) and many nieces and nephews.  Nicholas’ wife, Frances, passed away in April of 2025.  Carol’s husband, Bobby, passed away in December of 1998.

Funeral Services for Joe will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Sewell, NJ.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:15 am.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am, followed by a Military Service and interment at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Office of Mission Advancement for the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, www.ihmimmaculata.org or 230 IHM Drive, Malvern, PA 19355.
