Paul Huth Price left this earthly life on January 22 at the age of 66 following a lengthy illness. He died peacefully at home in Pinewood Springs, Colorado with his family near him. He was born on March 5, 1959 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Paul J. Price and Shirley A. Dietrich Price Sheppard.
Paul grew up in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1981 from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, majoring in computer science. He moved to Rochester, New York to work for Kodak for several years and then spent a year at an ELCA synod office in New Jersey. He also spent several summers as a camp counselor. His next move was to Colorado following a ski trip where he fell in love with Colorado. He spent a summer serving as backpack coordinator at Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp in the Poudre Canyon, which fed into his love of the outdoors. Paul spent a few years at Great West Life in Denver before moving to the northern Colorado area where he worked for IBM, Hewlett Packard, and most recently USDA. He retired in 2023.
Paul met his wife, Deborah Huth, in 1991 and they married October 10, 1992. Both were previously committed singles but they knew almost immediately that they were destined to be together.
When not working, Paul was an excellent woodcarver, specializing in caricatures, walking sticks, Santas, and wildlife. He also embraced other art projects and supported and encouraged people in their creative efforts. Paul helped start the Loveland Woodcarving Club years ago and was still actively involved in that club. He also loved playing chess and was part of several chess groups along the Colorado Front Range.
He and Deborah volunteered at astronomy events in Boulder County, Fort Collins, and Rocky Mountain National Park—he had an array of telescopes and was happy to share views of the sky with anyone interested. They also volunteered together with the Elk Bugle Corps at Rocky Mountain National Park.
Paul and Deborah had adventures together on several wonderful trips the last few years including the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Baja California, and many US-based trips.
Paul loved life, loved to laugh, loved his family, and loved people in general. He will be missed by his loving wife, his siblings, relatives, many friends, nephews, nieces, and godchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his step father Frank Sheppard, his niece Brittany Fetherolf, and his great-nephew Oliver Bradshaw. He is survived by his wife Deborah, step mother Ruth Ann Price, sister Teresa Clark, brother Mitchell Price, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Paul Bradshaw, nephews and nieces, godchildren, and countless friends.
An informal service and memorial/celebration of life, and meal will be held Sunday, February 1, 3:00 p.m. at the Estes Valley Community Center Multipurpose Room, 660 Community Drive, Estes Park, CO.
Attendees are encouraged to wear tie-dye shirts, Hawaiian shirts, or something festive to celebrate Paul’s cheerful spirit. Donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Nature Conservancy, Estes Valley Land Trust, The Denver Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
