Icye Lee (Abbott) Coulston (96), formerly of Newport, returned to her Heavenly Father on August 28th, 2021. She passed away at home surrounded by her family. Icye was born to Charles and Ida (Root) Abbott on June 29th, 1925 in Harrington, Washington. Icye grew up in Harrington until her senior year of high school when her parents moved to Spokane. She graduated from North Central High School in 1942. She worked at the Naval Supply Depot in the Spokane Valley off of Sullivan. She married Leonard “Bud” Coulston, September 7, 1951. She was Bud’s constant companion and traveled with Bud while he worked construction out of town. She raised 3 children and was a stay at home mom until all the children were in school, she then took a job at Sears Catalog Store in Newport. Bud and Icye bought 23 acres outside of Newport to homestead. She worked right beside Bud clearing the land and building their home. They raised chickens, pigs, and beef. Icye and Bud would raise a huge garden every year and share with friends and family. Icye’s passion was to make her famous apple pie for dessert. She passed her passion of baking onto her grandchildren. Sunday dinners she would either make her awesome fried chicken or a pot roast. After Bud passed in 2009 she went to live with her daughter Pam in Cheney, WA and was there for the last 12 years, she then came to live with her other daughter Marie, in Post Falls ID, during her final months.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leonard “Bud” Elroy Coulston; her father and mother, Charles and Ida Abbott; 2 Sisters, Loretta (Abbott) Waite, Evelyn (Abbott) (Austin) Shelly; 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Coulston.

She is survived by her 2 daughters and 1 son; Pam (Ray) Hill; Wayne (Elouise) Coulston, and Marie (Bob) Cunningham; 11 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter. 3 Nephews; Terry (Gaye) Austin, Bob (Nancy) Austin, and Ricky Austin.
