John Gilbert Daniel, 87, passed away on January 21, 2026. He was born December 12, 1938 in Ash Grove, Missouri to Henry and Ethel Daniel.
John proudly served in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of honorable service.
He served in the Vietnam war where he was wounded in action and awarded the purple hearts. His service was later featured in a movie Metal of Honor and a book One Day Too long. Following his military career, John made his home in La Junta, Colorado, where he married and spent most of his life. In his later years. He moved to Colorado Springs to live with his son and daughter-in-law. He greatly enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John G Daniel will be remembered for his courage, dedication and service to his country.
He has survived by his children, Jerry (Monica) Daniel Sr., Jean (Pye) Johnson and Jane (Steven) Martinez; stepchildren, Larissa, Mathew and Donny; grandchildren, Jerry (Megan) Daniel Jr., Eric (Sarah) Daniel Sr.
Jessica (Collin) Dierkensen, Bryan Martinez, Thomas (Cassandra) Martinez; great grandchildren, Jordyn, Eric Jr., Ahriya, Jerrick and Jagger Daniel, Anna, Andrew, Adriana, Olivia, Tommy and Emily Martinez
He preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Ethel Daniel, sister Evelyn, 4 brothers Donald, Robert, Ray and Max and grandson Carlos Perez.
Burial services will be held at a later date.
