Sewchand “John” Ramdat, 67, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on January 28, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished with his whole heart.
Born on October 22, 1958, in Berbice, Guyana, John lived a life rooted in kindness, generosity, and a quiet, steady determination. After emigrating from Guyana at a young age, he devoted more than 30 years to serving his community as a proud U.S. Postal Service mail carrier. Neighbors along his route knew him not only for his reliability, but for the warmth he carried with him—an open-hearted presence that made people feel seen and cared for.
John had a deep appreciation for the simple beauty of life. Softspoken by nature, he found joy in the world around him—whether watching baseball as the most loyal Yankees fan, enjoying old Indian films and westerns, or listening to music that carried him back to the 1970s. He loved cruising around in his Mercedes, tending to his home and yard, especially during the holidays, when his famous Christmas lights transformed his space into a glowing celebration of love, community, and the season’s magic. Hosting family, friends, and coworkers brought him immense happiness; his home was a place where laughter, good food, and genuine connection were always welcome.
Above all, John lived for his family. Time together—whether traveling, shopping at HomeGoods, or simply sharing a meal—was what he treasured most. His integrity guided every part of his life, and those who knew him felt the sincerity of his heart.
In 1984, John married the love of his life, Marie, and together they built a home filled with warmth, compassion, and an open door for anyone in need. He was a devoted father to Sean and Sabrina and a proud grandfather to Izaiah, Joshua, and Zara. John was, without question, the beloved uncle—he had known most of his nieces and nephews from the moment they entered the world, and he had a gift for making each one feel uniquely cherished.
John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie; his children, Sean and Sabrina; his grandchildren; his brothers Paul, Hector, Indro, and Omchand; his sister Seeta; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his gentle strength, his love of nature and family, and the open-hearted kindness he shared so freely with the world.
John’s funeral will be held on February 7, 2026, at 10:00 am at Anderson McQueen Funeral and Cremation Center at 7820 38th Ave N in St. Petersburg, FL. A viewing will be held on Friday February 6, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the same location.
