Todd Kenneth Hampton passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2026. He was born on December 29, 1937, in Beloit, Kansas, to H. Dwight and Martha (Todd) Hampton.

Todd grew up in Downs, Kansas, where he graduated from Downs High School in 1955. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU) in 1959 and later a master’s degree in English education from Pittsburg State University. During his time at KWU, he excelled both academically and athletically, earning All-American honors in football and recognition in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He was also selected and got to travel to Austria and Germany to help build orphanages. In 2019, Todd took his family to visit his Alma Mater where he was inducted into the KWU Hall of Fame for his football achievements.

On May 22, 1964, Todd married Doyleene (Doy) Yockers in Salina, Kansas. He began his teaching career in Chanute and El Dorado, Kansas, before moving to Greeley, Colorado, in 1967. He spent 40 years teaching in Greeley and the Saint Vrain Valley School District, positively impacting countless students.

Todd had a lifelong love of sports. He coached high school football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and golf, and served as a high school basketball and football referee for 40 years. He was able to combine his love of athletics and writing as a sports reporter for the Greeley Tribune for many years.

Todd was a member of the Highland Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association from 1998 – 2025, was President in 2006, and Trustee from 2020 – 2023. He was an original member of the Boomerang Legends Senior League from 2017 to 2025. Throughout the years, Todd won several golf championships and celebrated two holes in one – his last one at 84 years old. He was also an active member of Friends of Baseball, served as a Greeley Stampede Wrangler and on the City of Greeley Parks and Recreation Board. Although Todd was a competitor, his greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various activities.

After retirement, Todd and Doy traveled extensively, visiting numerous countries and enjoying their adventures together.

Todd is survived by his wife, Doy; his children Kevin (Linda) Hampton and Cindy (Jeff) Hasbrouck; his grandchildren Derek Smith, Jacob Todd (Dally) Hasbrouck, Todd Kristopher Hampton, Jaedon Jean (Jaden) Olearnick, and Kaitlyn Doyleene Hampton; great-granddaughters Ellington Hasbrouck, Jett Olearnick, and Charlotte Hasbrouck. He is also survived by his sister, Elinor Makings, numerous cousins’ and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Scott; brothers-in-law Don Makings and Richard Scott; nephew Doug Makings; and niece Jennifer Scott.

Todd’s sense of humor, lifelong love of learning and compassion for those less fortunate will be missed by many. His dedication to family, students, athletes, and his community are a legacy that will live on.

Todd’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Friends of Baseball – Northern Colorado.

Services will be held in the Spring, date and times to be posted.
