James “Jim/Jimmy” Steven Weingart, 62, of Tucson, AZ, passed away on January 19, 2026, after courageously battling cancer.
Born on April 6, 1962, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, he was the third child of Thomas and Faith Weingart. His parents relocated from Kendall Park, New Jersey to Tucson, Arizona in 1978. He went to school locally, graduating from Flowing Wells High School. Jim’s born calmness and compassion led to a career in the funeral home services, where he was able to help others through their roughest days with empathy, strength and true kindness. As a family we always turned to him whenever we were in need of these services and without hesitation, he would take the reins and deliver an exquisite service with effortless ease. It is only now as we all have gathered to coordinate his services that we realized even more what a true gift he possessed. A peer in the industry said Jim was an “old pro” that you could always count on.
Jim was a man with many passionate interests. He was a gifted and talented self-trained musician and the Director of Music for St. Margaret Mary’s in Tucson since 1995. He has performed at masses, weddings, funerals and truly anytime he was near an instrument. In addition to his love of music, came his fascination with trains. He spent countless hours in his backyard tending to the garden railroad that he built. He appreciated the rhythm of movement, the beauty of connection, the idea of always being on a journey, these were fitting metaphors for the way he lived his life as well.
Jimmy is survived by his long-time companion and best friend, Peter Schlee, his older sister, Veronica Lawson and her husband, Richard Lawson, his younger sister Terry Galbreath and her son Stephon and his older brother Thomas Weingart and his wife, Dina Weingart. He was an uncle and great uncle to many including Jennifer Sykora and her son, Matthew Emery, Stephanie Brodie and her husband, Jeremy Coombs and their two sons, Jack and Evan. Along with Thomas Allen and his wife, Alicia Allen and their three children Jayden, Isabella and Amelia. In addition, by Dara Verde and her husband, Joshua Verde and Joseph Weingart and his son Jackson Weingart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Faith Weingart.
It brings all of us peace to remember that Jimmy’s faith was deep and sincere. He believed in the comfort of Christianity and held a steadfast trust that life continues beyond what we can see. We like to think of him now surrounded by peace, with his family in heaven, his love, kindness and music echoing through a brighter place.
Services will be held at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Roman Catholic Church, located at 801 N. Grande Ave. Tucson, AZ, 85745 on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11am. Reception following the mass will be held in the church hall.
