Bluffton/Hilton Head, SC – Mary Lou Pitts passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 89.
Mary Lou was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Harry Corbett and Pauline McGuire Van Horn. She married Charles Martin Pitts in 1956, and they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2018. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and faith.
Mary Lou is survived by her son, Randy (Carla) Pitts, and her daughter, Kelly Erwin. She was a proud grandmother to three granddaughters: Erica (Carlos) Esquer, Kaylee (Luke) Clark, and Alexandra (Austin) Clark. She found immense joy in her four great-grandchildren: Braylon Clark, Dillon Esquer, Jordan Esquer, and Auri Clark, who at just 9 weeks old brought light and happiness to her final days.
She is also preceded in death by her loving sisters, Dolores Ritter and Wanda Griffin.
Mary Lou will be remembered for her caring heart, devotion to her family, and the kindness she extended to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and warmth will live on in those she held closest.
Funeral services in her honor will be held February 6 at 11 am at The Island Funeral Home, 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head, SC. Following the service, Mary Lou will be reunited with her late husband and interred at 1 pm at the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bluffton Self Help.
May Mary Lou rest in eternal peace.
