Margaret “Maggie” Mary (Browne) Pauly was born in Ballinacorriga, Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland on December 20th, 1931 to Patrick and Mary Ellen Browne. She grew up with 3 brothers and 2 sisters and immigrated to the United States in 1949. She settled in Chicago, Illinois where she married Edmund Pauly. The couple raised their 6 children in various locations in the US while Margaret’s husband served in the United States Navy. They eventually moved to St. Petersburg, Florida after Ed retired in 1978.
She and Ed were active in their church (St. Jude’s), The Ancient Order of Hibernians, SPIFFS, Florida Irish American Club, West Coast Florida Irish American Club, DAV and various other Veteran / military organizations. Margaret peacefully passed away on January 25th in her home with family by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund “Big Ed” Thomas Pauly, her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Mary Pauly, and her son Michael “Mick” Gerard Pauly. She’s survived by her remaining children and their spouses Ed (Gaye) Pauly, daughter-in-law Karen Pauly, Mary (Rich) Moench, Theresa (Daniel) Gustafson, and Walter Pauly as well as grandchildren Patrick, Ari, Brianne, Grace, Jessica, Joseph, Hannah, Samuel, Kevin, Brenden, Alex, Noah, Gloria, Gabriel, Amelia, and Griffin as well as 9 great-grandchildren.
Margaret will be remembered for Ceili dancing, making Irish soda bread and cookies, gardening, making people laugh, playing the family game of Marbles, serving and volunteering in various organizations, but above all, as a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
