Bob was born October 26, 1930 to Robert T (Bert) Webb and Mildred Simpson Webb. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, living in Sugarhouse right near Fairmont Park. After graduating from South High School, he went on to the College of Civil Engineering at the University of Utah. His schooling was ‘interrupted’ by the Korean War and he spent two years in the Army. He was Stationed at Camp Roberts, California and served as Operations and Administrative NCO for the Radio and Wire Schools there.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the U to finish his degree. During his senior year, he was elected President of the Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. It was about this time that Bob’s sister, Carol, introduced him to a new girl in town, Colleen Foy. They immediately fell in love and were soon engaged but waited for Bob to graduate to get married. They were married June 10, 1955 (two days after graduation) in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.
Bob and Colleen began their lives together in Murray, Utah. Bob went to work as a Design Engineer Trainee for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company at their Salt Lake Fabricating Plant. They then welcomed their daughter, Cindy and enjoyed their time as a small family in Utah. After a couple of years, Bob was transferred to their San Francisco Sales Office. They then welcomed their son, Gordon, after their move to the Bay Area.
It was clear that Bob had found his calling in sales work. He spent the next 35 years in Sales and Sales Management for CBI. He sold everything from simple water and petroleum storage tanks to complicated Nuclear Power Reactors and Containment Vessels. From Beer Fermenters for Fishers in Salt Lake to Penstocks for a new dam and hydro-powerplant in Ghana.
After about 10 years in San Francisco, Bob and Colleen were transferred to Oak Brook, Illinois, just outside Chicago and began what Bob referred to as their lives as Corporate Gypsies- being transferred every few years. They moved from Chicago to Philadelphia, then Rotterdam, then Tokyo, back to San Francisco, then back to Chicago and finally to Singapore. Bob and Colleen cultivated many wonderful and meaningful friendships and memories during their travels. They celebrated Bob’s retirement by returning to the States and moved to Incline Village, Nevada at Lake Tahoe. Later, Bob’s dream of enjoying retirement on the golf course became a reality when they moved to St. George, Utah.
He was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including High Priest Group Leader, in the Branch Presidency in Tokyo, and the High Council in Singapore. At Tahoe, he served as Bishop for five years and following that they served in the Oakland Temple one week a month.
Bob was an extremely devoted family man. It brought him great joy in watching the fruits of his hard work provide his family with such a unique and wonderful life. Not only was he a dedicated husband and dependable father, but he was an earnest grandfather. He always knew the right thing to say and imparted his wisdom during every visit. He shared his passion for history, fishing and model trains with his family. Some of his most treasured memories included officiating his daughter’s and granddaughter’s weddings.
Bob is preceded in death by his eternal companion and beloved wife, Colleen. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Brett) Bilsborough; son, Gordon (Toni) Webb; grandchildren; Eric (Katie) Frazier, Tori (Chris) O’Neill, Jade and Sean Webb; great- grandchildren, Wolfgang, Gunnar, and Bronson Frazier. He is also survived his sister and “matchmaker” Carol Hamilton and many cherished nieces and nephews.
