Gregory Lee Merriman, born on December 27, 1952, in Tacoma, Washington, peacefully passed away on January 26, 2026, in Oakville, Washington. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend whose life was marked by his unwavering commitment God and family and a passion for horticulture.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie Shoulders, whom he married on October 25, 1980. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their sons, Nathan L. Merriman (Amanda), Jared Paul Merriman, and Brett M. Merriman, and their daughters, Elisabeth G. Mattson (Brandon), Julie Danielle Nadeau (Timothy), Kimberly Dawn Merriman, and Mary Merriman. He also leaves behind a close-knit family that includes his brother, Douglas Merriman (Jan), and sister, Terri Beale (Perry), as well as 16 grandchildren who were among his greatest joys.
Greg was preceded in death by his son, Jared ,and his parents, Henry and Louise (Lee) Merriman. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness and guidance.
A graduate of Sumner High School, Greg earned a Bachelor’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Washington State University. He dedicated much of his career to the turfgrass industry, working at Briggs Nursery, Emerald Turfgrass Farms, Black River Turfgrass Farms, and Country Green Turfgrass Farms. His expertise and passion for gardening shone brightly, and he took great pride in growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Each summer, he would sell his vibrant flower baskets filled with pansies, petunias and sweet peas, with his spirited grandchildren supporting his endeavors as the best salespeople.
Beyond his professional achievements, Greg was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, where he instilled values of service and leadership in the youth of the community.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Greg’s memory and the importance of supporting cancer research and patient support services.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to flourish through the love he cultivated in God, his family and community.
