Roger Dale Woods, age 69, passed away on January 31, 2026. He was born on May 19, 1956, to Joe Woods and Reidun Torvik. Roger lived a life defined by quiet strength, steadfast devotion to his family, and a deep sense of service to others.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years before retiring, a commitment that reflected his discipline, loyalty, and strong sense of duty. Following his military retirement, he went on to work for Consolidated Mailing Service in West Columbia, where he dedicated 28 years of service. He continued his lifelong commitment to giving back by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, always willing to lend his time, skills, and heart.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 44 years, Linda Lord Woods, and a loving father to his children: Janet (David) Thorpe, Jeremy (Heather) Lassiter, and Shawn (Amy) Woods. He was a proud grandfather to Jonathon Thorpe; Rachel (Kalob) Stewart; Cassandra (Garrett) Stewart; Hayley Thorpe; Kyle (Bridget) Lassiter; Jacob Lassiter; Erika Browning; Daniel Clarke; Ryan Woods; and Shelby Woods, and a cherished great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. Roger is also survived by his sisters, Linda Brandt and Chris Lindsay.
Known for his stubborn determination and calm presence, Roger balanced his quiet nature with a ready sense of humor. He always had a dad joke or clever quip waiting, often delivered with perfect timing. He found joy in woodworking, researching his genealogy, and, above all, spending time with his family. A faithful member of Providence Presbyterian Church, his faith was an important and guiding part of his life.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Dr, West Columbia, SC 29169. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory to Providence Presbyterian Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina.
