Stanley Douglas McKie, 72, of Boise, passed away at home on Sunday, January 25, 2026. A dedicated husband, father, and patriot, Stan lived a life defined by loyalty, integrity, and resilience. He proudly served his country and state in the Idaho National Guard. He was deeply respected for the mentorship he provided to those serving alongside him.
In addition to his career in the National Guard, Stan spent decades working in radio and television. He worked in Blackfoot during the Teton Dam collapse, and later co-hosted a successful radio show HomeFix, a public television show, and a remodeling business all of the same name.
He was born in Emmett, Idaho, on April 1, 1953, to John Douglas McKie and Gwendolyn Humphries McKie. Stan met his future wife, Janice Marie Booth, on a blind date in 1983, and from then on, they were never far from each other’s side. They later married on September 21, 1985, and welcomed two daughters in the years that followed. He was a lifelong learner with a passion for history, science fiction, and comic books. He will be remembered most for his humor, grit, and intellect.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Jan; their daughters Hayley (Dylan) Gonzalez, Allyson (Matthew) Gray; grandchildren Lukas, Avery, Emery, Alexandria Gray, and Whitney Gonzalez; sister Debra (Gene) Chantrill, sister-in-law Leann McKie, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Steven John McKie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Stan’s honor to the American Heart Association.
