George A. Yost, a Hoosier native and a 24 year resident of the Phoenix area, died suddenly Wednesday, January 21st, surrounded by family in Chandler Regional Medical Center.

George was born in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1949 to George and Billie Yost. At Bloomington High School South, he was president of the high school band and a football lineman on his school team. A cousin described him as “a lot of fun and rambunctious.” In 1967, he enrolled at Western Kentucky University where he majored in business economics and graduated in four years.

From Western Kentucky, he then moved back to Bloomington where he worked for several accounting firms as a tax accountant attorney. But then he left accounting to turn a life-long hobby of following car trends into a means of earning a living. This was a love he passed onto his two sons Brock Yost and Adam Yost. He successfully sold cars through classified ads in the newspaper long before the internet existed.

In 2002, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to escape the cold Indiana winters; he always praised the dry Arizona weather, declaring that even the weather in Northern California (where his sister lives) was too humid. Friends and family remember him as an inveterate “raconteur” or storyteller who loved a good joke and could deliver a punch line with skill. He was a collector of German steins and camel sculptures which he inherited from his parents; grandfather clocks which he put together and gave away; as well as cars for his business. He was a devoted science fiction fan including Star Trek; he loved to travel especially on cruises. He vacationed with his two sons, visiting as many national parks as possible. He was something of a dog rescuer with his last dog called Rambo.

He enjoyed his four Yost grandchildren. Fourteen year old Callie remembers his cheerful voice and joking manner on the phone; twelve year old Cooper says he was “the best grandfather ever.”

He is survived by his partner of 11 years, Inge Mckeever; 2 sons, Brock of Phoenix and Adam of Union Kentucky: his sister, Millie Pease of Calistoga, California: his brother Bob Yost, of Missoula, Montana: and his four Grandchildren: Callie and Cooper Yost of Phoenix and Julian and Journey Yost of Union Kentucky.

A Celebration of his life will be held February 7th, 2026.
