Jerry Verreyen, 79, of Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. “Jer” was born on October 5, 1946, in Rotterdam, Holland to his loving and devoted parents John and Gertude. Jer, along with his younger brother, Joe Verreyen, enjoyed their adolescence in Holland until the family immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 1957. In Denver, Jer finished elementary school, attended middle and high school, graduating from Lincoln High in 1965. After graduation, Jer was drafted in the armed forces and proudly served our country while being stationed in Germany. After his military service, Jer continued to serve his country as a cartographer for the federal government, a job he would hold until he retired. Well respected in his position, Jer was frequently asked to lead training sessions for newer cartographers, and he would also occasionally instruct at local colleges.
In 1984, Jerry met the love of his life, Marilyn Laurentze Metzler, who came into the marriage with three children: Aaron, Carrie-Ann, and Jennifer. Jerry and Marilyn shared a forty‑year love story and were rarely apart. Jerry adored and supported Marilyn in every way, even fulfilling her dream of owning a horse. When they purchased the horse, Jer cared for it and not only fed it and cleaned up after it but even built a barn just for “Regis”. That is who Jer was; selfless, caring, supportive, and genuine. These personality traits would also set him up for parenting success. Once professing to not wanting children, he came to it like a natural, quickly earning trust and respect of his three “new” children and devoting his life to being the best dad! Whether it was teaching his kids how to drive, or repairing a home appliance, rebuilding a cabin or just sharing his advice and wisdom, Jer gave his love generously and freely.
Jer had great many interests and hobbies including music (favs included Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, and the Beatles), flyfishing, tying flies, hunting, guns, making knives and one of his greatest joys was sharing his interests with his friends and family.
Jer leaves a legacy of always showing up in service to others, loving fully and completely, and being authentic and true to himself.
Jer is survived by his, wife, Marilyn, children, Aaron Sapp (Amelia Sapp), Carrie Ann Phillips (Josh Phillips) Jennifer Sapp, and six grandchildren, Gracie Sapp, Kavan Jerry Wade, Audry Sapp, Mason Phillips, Tilly Sapp, and Cameron Phillips, his brother (and best friend) Joe Verreyen (Kathy Verreyen), and his nephew, Bryce. In addition, Jerry leaves a great number of good lifelong friends.
The family invites you to attend funeral services to be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on February 13, 2026, at 3:00 pm (3698 South Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO 80235) followed by a celebration of life gathering at the VFW Post 9644 (2680 W Hampden Ave, Sheridan, CO 80110) at 4:30 pm.
