Bobby Lynn Jarnagin, age 78, of Surgoinsville went home to meet the Lord and to be with his wife Shirley on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Bobby was born on February 27, 1947, to Dewey and Fannie Jarnagin. Bobby was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Surgoinsville and was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. He retired from Holliston Mills after 40+ years of service. Together with his wife, they owned New Dimensions Hair Salon. After the passing of his beloved wife, he went back to work for Hawkins County Highway Department. In his early years Bobby was a member of Hawkins County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Bobby served the town of Surgoinsville as an Alderman for many years. In addition, he was an active member of Surgoinsville Ruritan Club.
Bobby enjoyed classic cars, fishing, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandson Braylon. He was an avid Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Braves fan. Bobby will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and friend who will be missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Jarnagin and brother Jimmy Don Jarnagin.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Nikki (Cliff) Cristy of Powell, TN; son Brad (Jennifer) Jarnagin of Mt. Carmel, TN; grandson Braylon Jarnagin; sister-in-law Barbara Bamman of Surgoinsville, TN; special cousins Joyce Sizemore and Harold Swatsell; several nieces and nephews; special friend that he considered like a daughter Rhonda Salyer; special friend Megan Gentry; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home – Church Hill with funeral service following at 7:00pm with Rev. Jesse Hartgrove officiating. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens with Tommy Williams, Jeff Presley, Jamie Bledsoe, Eddie McNally, Tim Hoss, and Randall Collier serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Burton, Harold Swatsell, Josh Mauk, James Britton, and James Hammonds. Those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15pm. The family would like to give a special thanks to Holston Valley Medical Center Staff and the staff of Wexford House for their loving care.
