Sharyn Joyce Martin, 78, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, with her family by her side. She was the daughter and eldest child of the late B.H. Winegar and Georgia Joyce Winegar. Sharyn married James Charles Martin on September 10, 1965, and their marriage lasted over 60 years. She was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church while her health permitted. During her church membership she was in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and a prime organizer in Samaritan Purse Shoe Box Ministry. She was an employee of WKPT for 30 years before her retirement. Sharyn also Volunteered with CASA for nine years putting in countless hours and helping numerous children which she called “her little people”. She was passionate about writing and received awards as well as being a published author of The Jimson Weed and These Haunted Hills. Sharyn was a wonderful daughter, wife sister, and aunt who leaves behind a family who loves her dearly as well as a wonderful testimony.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David B. Winegar.
Those awaiting their reunion in heaven are her beloved husband; James “J.C.” Martin; beloved dog; Little Roda; sister, Ellen French; brother, Michael Winegar and wife Lisa; cousin, Danny Blankenbeckler (Donna); nieces, Jennifer Miller, Renee Garber (Danny), Cheronna “Liz” Matney (Jacob), and Faith French; nephew, Lee Wheatley (Candice Roberts); along with a host of great nieces and nephews; also left to mourn her passing is her beloved church family.
The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jacob Matney, Carroll Carr, Lee Wheatley, Danny Garber, Danny Slater, and Johnny Gordon; Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Winegar and Danny Blankenbeckler. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CASA in her honor.
