Robert James Valenti, born on February 8, 1941, in Holyoke, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2026, just days before his 85th birthday. He was the beloved son of Santo J. and Beatrice (Miles) Valenti, both of whom have predeceased him. Robert shared a cherished partnership for 42 years with his devoted wife, Margery (Smith) Valenti. It was said that Bob and Marge completed each other. This union brought together his two wonderful daughters, Elizabeth and Sara Valenti, with Margery's three children, David Mandeville, Robert Mandeville, and Laurie Beaudette. Robert is also survived by his loving sister, Cynthia Mikiewicz (Alan) as well as eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Louis J. Valetni in 1978, Nancy E. Carr in 2011, and Sandra A. Parent in 2024.
Robert honorably served his country in the US Army from 1960-1963. As a hardworking individual, Robert dedicated his career to being a hardware salesman for a hardware distribution company, where he was known for his commitment to his work. Robert and his wife, Marg found joy in playing pitch and cribbage at the Holyoke, South Hadley, and Chicopee Senior Centers. He also started and ran for over 20 years the website for the Holyoke High School, Class of 1959. Bob took pride in his summer garden, where he grew his own vegetables, sharing this passion with family and friends. Both Robert and Margery also enjoyed the time that they were able to volunteer ushers at the Majestic Theatre in West Springfield along with being volunteers with the South Hadley Food Pantry for several years. Additionally, Robert was a proud member of the American Legion Post 266 in Granby. Through the years, Margery and Robert took many road trips and especially enjoyed the Black Hills, Montana and Wyoming.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the South Hadley Food Pantry, 30 Carew St in South Hadley, MA 01075 or Cathedral in the Night, 867 N.Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01002. "To celebrate life even in a time of death is to go where the pain is. Doing the things that make for peace."
