Fred Howard Muir, born October 21, 1953, in Imperial, California, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on January 29, 2026. He was the son of Fred H Muir and Gwendolene Nancy Benson Muir and spent much of his childhood in Imperial, California. Survived by: his wife Brenda Muir; children Sara Muir‑Emel, Candace Martel, James Muir, Lana Muir, and John Muir; his sister Judith Muir Bobier; and 12 grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends who loved him. Predeceased by: his parents Fred H Muir and Gwendolene Nancy Benson Muir, his siblings Joyce McCoy Cox, Daniel McCoy, Greg McCoy, Sheila McCoy Hadsel, Carol Muir McGhee and his son Joshua Muir. Raised along the Southern California coast, Fred grew up playing baseball, sparring and learning to work on cars. Standing 6’2” and 250 pounds, he was a gentle giant, surprisingly agile on the field and a fierce competitor in the ring. He had a few pro fights and considered playing professional baseball. Nevertheless, he was known for his bright, blue eyes, a playful smirk, and a warm, kind heart. Fred moved frequently in adulthood, living and working between Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kingman, Arizona. He built a long career in the automotive industry, where his mechanical skill was matched by an exceptional talent for customer service. When his children were young, he would return from work in Las Vegas and spend entire weekends teaching them about cars, working from sunrise to sunset and turning those hours into lasting memories. A lifelong prankster and storyteller, Fred was beloved for his quick wit and hilarious jokes. He loved fishing, hunting and strolling through the desert in his truck to capture the world through his camera lens; sunsets, landscapes, wildlife, and the odd cactus or snake that caught his eye. Photography and the open road were among his greatest joys. A memorial service will be held in California on April 21, 2026. Further details about time and location will be shared with family and friends when available.
