Shirlee Ruggie, age 89, of Venice and formerly of Solon, Ohio, passed away on February 5, 2026. She was born on April 17, 1936, in Linden, N.J., to Elvon and Mary Forman. Shirlee met her husband Alexander (Al) Ruggie at Cornell University and they were married in 1957 until Al’s death in 2019. Shirlee is survived by two daughters, Laurene (William) Zenoniani of Albion, Mich., and Kathleen Teuscher (Phillip Johnston) of Chardon, Ohio; two sons, Mark Ruggie of Florence, S.C., and Edward Ruggie of York, S.C., and a brother-in-law, Michael Ruggie of Bainbridge, Ohio. She also leaves behind five loving grandchildren, Amanda Teuscher of Washington, DC, Kelsey (Ben) Vitanye of Fairview Park, Ohio, Rachel Teuscher of Chardon, Ohio, Ethan Ruggie of Easley, S.C., and Mallory Ruggie of Duncan, S.C.; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cole Vitanye.
Shirlee was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a math tutor for many years in Solon and Venice. Her students often came back to tell her how much she helped them. She enjoyed time boating and skiing with her family at Chautauqua Lake in New York. In Venice, she enjoyed golf, especially with the “9 Holers” group, of which she previously was president and was a very active member. Shirlee was also very skilled at bridge. What she loved most was spending time with her family when they came to visit.
A visitation for Shirlee will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Wednesday, February 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. A Catholic mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes on Thursday, February 12, at 10 a.m. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
