It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George H. Steele, who died on February 3, 2026, in Sarasota, Florida. Born in Lancaster, Wisconsin, on July 15, 1943, George lived a full life marked by curiosity, wit, and a sharp, analytical mind.
George was a remarkably intelligent and gifted individual who enjoyed travel and embracing life’s experiences. He especially looked forward to his regular bridge games with his dear friend Sylvia, which brought him joy and companionship.
In his later years, George shared a close and meaningful bond with his niece Mary, who was a steady presence in his life. Their time together brought him comfort and companionship. He also deeply valued the time shared with his daughter Joanne, and he was motivated by the hope of recovery so he could spend more time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant a great deal to him.
George was predeceased by his parents and his beloved daughter Katherine. He is survived by his daughters Emily and Joanne; his grandchildren, Sean Mason and Lauren; his great-grandchildren, John and Aubrey; his sisters Ellen and Tzivia; and extended family who remember him with care.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
