Julius Louis Helvey II (Lou), passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 in his home in Moraga, California where he had resided with his wife, Barbara, for 60 years. He was 94 years old.
Lou was born in Boise, Idaho May 21, 1931, the only child of Julius L. Helvey and Adeline Jonasson. After graduating from Boise High school, he received a senatorial appointment to the US Naval Academy. Following graduation from the Academy, he served in the Navy until 1957, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant. Lou entered the Stanford Graduate School of Business, earning his MBA in 1959 and later his CPA certificate in 1961. He worked for a national CPA firm for eleven years and then joined Golden West Financial Corporation and its subsidiary World Savings, where he worked for thirty-one years and retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Lou was active in his community and church as a coach and scoutmaster (troop 249). He was a committed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in administrative and teaching assignments and for thirteen years as a temple ordinance worker at the Oakland Temple. He enjoyed caring for his children and his rose garden, and researching his family history.
Lou is survived by his beloved wife and sweetheart, Barbara, and their five children and their spouses, Janet Bolenbaugh (Rob), Jay Helvey (Gwen), Jennifer Harvey (Todd), Mary Bianchini (John) and Rebecca Helvey (Matt Gottlieb), and fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to funeral services, 11:00 am, Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3776 Vía Granada, Moraga, CA 94556, with public visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:00 am.
Interment with Military Honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery will be Monday, February 23, 2026.
