Jay Robert Owens, born in Santa Fe, NM to JW and Florence Owens passed away peacefully in his Fort Collins home on February 08, 2026 at the age of 93. Jay lived life to the fullest always sharing kindness with everyone he met. After receiving his MBA from the University of Denver, he sent his career at Arthur Andersen & CO. In retirement he enjoyed sailing, photography, travel and time with his friends and family. He was an avid supporter of wildlife with an extraordinary passion for the preservation of whales and their environment. He was very appreciative of the love and companionship of family and especially his wife, Penny.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Penny Jo Applegate, sister Elaine, children Judith, James and Kate, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jay Douglas.
Jay will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jay cared about all his Mackenzie Friends: as Mackenzie residents like to say, "We care for one another"
