Sharon Ann McLean Czegledi, 80, lived a life marked by grit, loyalty, and deep love for her family. She passed away peacefully at home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on February 8, 2026, surrounded by family, after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, Sharon grew up in Harbor View along the Long Island Sound, where her lifelong love of the water began. As a young girl, she was known to swim to Sheffield Island, an early sign of the determination that would define her throughout her life.
Sharon met the love of her life, Michael Czegledi Sr., in high school, and the two were inseparable from the start. They were married on August 20, 1966, and shared nearly 60 years side by side. Early in their marriage, Sharon and Michael lived in Germany while Michael served in the United States Army, where Sharon was known for hosting memorable gatherings and lively parties in Mombach Village.
For nearly 40 years, Sharon worked alongside her husband as co-owner of Midway Cleaners in Rowayton and Michael’s Cleaners in Norwalk. She was a familiar face in town, often seen behind the wheel of the white delivery van, known for her honesty, hard work, and no-nonsense approach. Summers were spent living aboard their boat on G Dock, where Sharon and Michael enjoyed 25 years on the water with their close-knit summer crew, building friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.
When not on the water, family time centered at “Club Woodchuck,” with her children and grandchildren. Summers there were spent by the pool, jumping off the diving board, playing Categories, and competing for the biggest splash, moments that became some of the most meaningful memories for her family.
Sharon loved fiercely. She was deeply devoted to her husband, proud of her children, and closely connected to her grandchildren, who received frequent phone calls, texts, and daily jokes. She answered to many names, including Grandma with Amanda, Grammie, and Grandma Cleaners. She was also a loving grandmother to her grandpups, Olive and Mousse, whom she happily pet-sat whenever she could.
She loved flowers, gardening, and being near the water, passions that ultimately drew Sharon and Michael to retire near Hilton Head in Bluffton, South Carolina. In retirement, they could often be found riding around in their golf cart, attending the Gardening Club, and participating in Upbeats where they danced, played LRC, and donated annually to Toys for Tots.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Michael Czegledi Sr.; her children, Michael James Czegledi Jr. and his wife Laura, Hope Blair and her husband John, Jodie Adolfson and her husband Brett, and Maryellen Czegledi; her grandchildren, Liam Blair, Caitlin Blair, Dillon Blair, Sydney Adolfson, Piper Adolfson, Michael Czegledi III, and Ryan Czegledi; her sisters, Maureen Markelon and Pauline Clifford; and her beloved grandpups, Olive and Mousse. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Geraldine McLean, her brother James McLean Jr., and her sister Lucinda Gellene.
A funeral Mass and celebration of Sharon’s life will be held in Norwalk, Connecticut, in the spring. Further details will be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in honor of Sharon, who lived courageously with Type 1 diabetes for 52 years.
