Lois Christensen Hart, 84, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Colorado, where she spent the past five months overlooking a quiet, beautiful view of a lake that suited her steady and reflective spirit.
Born on June 12, 1941, in Jamaica, New York, Lois was the daughter of Arthur and Olive Christensen. She earned her bachelor's degree from Adelphi University and was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home parent.
Lois was an avid reader, an exceptional cook, and a devoted gardener, happiest with a book in hand, a spatula at the stove, or tending to her herbs and flowers. The ocean was her sanctuary — almost sacred to her — and her greatest source of peace and renewal. She had a quick wit and a perfectly timed, sarcastic sense of humor that drew people in and made them want to sit beside her at gatherings just to hear what she’d say next. Stoic yet deeply caring, she showed her love through a steady presence, practical wisdom, and fierce loyalty to her family.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Hart; her son, Jason Hart and daughter-in-law Megan Hart; her daughter, Karen Cantey; and her treasured grandchildren: McKenzie Hart, Aldyn Hart, and Shelby Cantey. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Atkins and brother-in-law Bob Atkins, and her sister-in-law, Nancy Christensen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Christensen, and her son-in-law, Frank (Pete) Cantey.
In lieu of a service, we have created an online memorial at lois-hart.forevermissed.com. All are free to spend time on the site and we encourage you to contribute memories and stories that celebrate her life.
We would like to thank the University of Colorado, Anschutz Hospital, The Manor on Marston Lake, and All Seasons Health and Hospice for their attention and care over the past five months
