Edgar John McHugh, 90, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. Born on June 8, 1935, in Evanston, Illinois, Edgar lived a life marked by devotion to his family, military service, a love for cars, and more than 40 years of sobriety.   He was married to Gay McHugh, until her passing in 2003. Gay is interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery, and Edgar will be laid to rest beside her, reunited once again. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah O’Hara McHugh and Thomas Duff McHugh, Brother Gordon McHugh, Sister Janet Thomas, and grandson, Mason Buckingham.  

 

Edgar is survived by his children: Kevin McHugh (Ann), Colleen Grow (Gary), and Bryan McHugh (Heather) and their mother Julie; his stepchildren: Matthew Wight, Andrew Wight, and Rebecca Buckingham; and his cherished grandchildren: Kyle, Jessica (Frank), Sarah (Colin), Philip, Jackson, Brody, Emily, Olivia, Avery, and Sarah. And Great Grandchildren Colin Jr., Ben, Elsie, Zelda, Alice, Paul, Levi, and longtime friend and partner Judy Genoff. His legacy lives on through each of them.  

 

A burial service with military honors will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. Reception to follow at Knowls Village clubhouse 2701 E. Geddes Pl. Centennial CO 80122.  

 

 In lieu of flowers, and In honor of Edgar’s long commitment to sobriety and active work with Alcoholics Anonymous, the family would kindly ask for donations to be made to Valley Hope of Parker CO- Donate | Valley Hope | Support Recovery Nationwide  

 

 Edgar will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. His steady presence and enduring love for his family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
