Frederick K. Walker Jr., 76, of LaFayette, died Monday, February 9, 2026.
He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Fire Protection Engineering in 1978 and dedicated many years to volunteer fire fighting. He retired from the US Air Force, civil service as the Chief Fire Protection Engineer in 2014. After retirement, he spent much of his time involved with his grandchildren. He also continued to work as an independent contractor for various Air Force fire protection projects.
He is predeceased by his father, Frederick Kellam Walker Sr. and mother, Lucile Floyd James.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Walker; Daughter, Jennifer Cowart (married to Timothy Cowart) and their children Madilyn, Saoirse, Liam, Ronan, and Fiona; his sister, Lucile Hill Suthard (married to Robert Lee Suthard (deceased)), and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 10-11:30AM at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, LaFayette, NY.
Burial will follow at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
