Dorothy Rae Grover, 87, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at Pete Moore Hospice House with family and friends present.
Dorothy was born on December 1, 1938, in Halford, Kansas, to LaVerne Nola (Benda) and Gerald Eugene Grover. She was the second of four children. In 1944, with her father serving in the US Navy in the Pacific, she and her older sister, Virginia, survived a house fire that took the lives of their mother, brother, and sister. For a time, they were raised by their grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Following the end of World War II, the family moved to central California, where their father found work. Dorothy graduated from Downey High School in Modesto, California, in 1956.
Moving to Eugene, Oregon, in 1958 to attend college, Dorothy found work as a telephone operator with the University of Oregon. Over the years, she was promoted to the position of Supervisor of the Telephone Office. She retired from the University on January 1, 2003.
Dorothy was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She served the churches she belonged to in many capacities and made many friends. She was also involved with Oregon Christian Endeavor for decades, where she met many lifelong friends and her best friend, Louise Pulsifer. Louise and Ray Pulsifer included Dorothy in all of their family gatherings. Their children and grandkids called her "Aunt".
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Leslie Taylor; nephew, Gary (Cherly) Taylor; two great-nieces and a nephew: Megan Zahnow, Jennifer Taylor, and Zachary Taylor; and three great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew: Leighana, Teagan, Preston, and Amelia. Dorothy was also Aunt to Ray and Louise's children: Raymond Pulsifer Jr., Linda Delapp, Lori Moretti, Loydeen Pulsifer, and great-aunt to their children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, LaVerne Grover; father, Gerald Grover; brother, Gary; sister, Vera; brother-in-law, Robert Taylor; and sister, Virginia Taylor.
Dorothy leaves a legacy of service, generosity, and devotion to her family, friends, church, and Jesus Christ.
