Terilyn Jo Verchio, 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026. Always one to live on her own terms, the night before she passed, she was enjoying her popsicles, watching television, and talking on the phone (her favorite pastime!). Teri was born in Chicago Heights on April 17, 1954, the youngest child of Francis and Jenny, and sister to Margaret. Teri spent her formative years in South Chicago Heights before moving on once her parents had passed. She enjoyed living in California, Utah, Texas and finally, Arizona, where she worked as the administrative assistant for the Tucson Airport Authority.
Teri lived life with loyalty, determination, and a very clear sense of what she wanted. She usually knew how to get it, too! And if she didn’t? She wasn’t afraid to pivot, change course, or move on — efficiently and without unnecessary drama. Terri valued honesty, clarity, and doing things the right way… preferably her way.
Teri also had a gift for making people feel welcomed and remembered. She sent cards — real ones, with stamps (and lots of stickers!)— and did countless small things to let people know they mattered. If Teri thought of you, you knew it. And if she didn’t… well, she probably had a very good reason.
Caregiving was a defining part of Teri’s life, and she embraced it with strength, patience, and an unshakable sense of responsibility. She lovingly cared for her parents, her sister, and her friend Ron’s daughter, Suzy. Suzy shared not only Teri’s home, but her heart, for many years. Teri didn’t just make room for people — she made them feel they belonged.
Those who knew Teri will remember her warmth, her directness, her loyalty, and the way she made life better simply by being part of it. Her legacy lives on in the many people who felt loved, supported, and truly seen because of her.
