Matthew Stephen Rockenback passed away in his home on February 9th, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. He was 47 years old.
Matthew was born in Poway, California in 1978. He attended Poway High School for one year until 1994, when the family moved to Tucson, Arizona. He then attended and graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School (CDO) in 1997. He attended Pima Community College and would go on to work in Security Operations at Raytheon and later for Boeing Defense in both supervisory and management roles.
He is survived by his father, Francis Rockenback, his mother, Sharon Rockenback, his daughter, Hayleigh Rockenback, his sister, Jennifer Rockenback, his nephew, Jude Decauwer, his niece, Hartley Decauwer and is predeceased by his brother-in- law Douglas Decauwer.
Matthew was passionate about a variety of subjects including trains, aviation, and history, specifically relating to the place he called home, Tucson, Arizona. Throughout his life, he loved animals of all kinds, and he shared a particularly special bond with his beloved cat, Trouble. He took an interest in music at an early age, forming a lifelong passion for punk rock. Matthew always appreciated a great meal, and he was an excellent chef who loved to cook for his family.
Matthew valued his independence, but he always made time for his lifelong friends. Those who knew Matthew would say he was a fantastic storyteller. He could tell a story with a twinkle in his eye that would capture the attention of any audience. His intelligence perfectly complimented his great sense of humor, and he easily made strangers into friends. He was fiercely himself, and he treated everyone he met with compassion and kindness.
Most of all, he held his loved ones the closest to his heart. He was in awe of his daughter, Hayleigh, had a strong respect for his father, Frank, and cherished his mother, Sharon. His loyalty, respect, and love for his family were a gift that will never be forgotten.
There will never be anyone else like him, and he will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Tucson, Arizona at 11am on February 21, 2026. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude, St. Vincent De Paul, or any local charity may be given in his honor.
